Welcome to our permaculture-inspired,15 Ha, farm website. Here we persue a healthier lifestyle and self-sufficiency, by transforming our piece of land into a food forest. We are simultaneously learning about permaculture style principals , and how to apply them.
Location of our food forest
We are based in South Africa in the Magaliesburg region . Join us on this exciting journey. We can show you what you too can do on your piece of lawn, flower box or acres of land to help bring healthier food to your family and community. Learn from our mistakes and have fun reaching your goals sooner. Farming and gardening , with food creation can only be achieved in a community environment. I encourage you to post comments to help us supply you with information you may be seeking, positive feedback to help make this a site well worth visiting.
Inspiration to create our food forest
South Africa has been in the grips of the worst drought in a decade, according to the meteorological office. We have witnessed farms and communities running out of water to the point where livestock has had to be culled to cut on costs and save the animal from a worse fate.
Severe droughts are often linked with food inflation. This certainly has been the case here with food prices rising in excess of 100 % in under a year in some cases. Commercial animal feeds have sky rocketed , along with a very violent and every increasing electricity price. This has been threatening to break the back of many smaller, cash strapped farms. In the midst of this we were able to find a solution that is sustainable.
We have found our inspiration from the super inpiring vidoes, release by Geoff Lawton at his brilliantly produced Free videos. We look forward to achieving our own certification soon. But in the mean time we work at building the area around our house, our zone 1 to the best we can with a tiny budget .
Budget Free
So far we have achieved an enormous amount on no budget. In the space of two months, with no budget we have managed to produce enough vegetables to sustain us without the need to go shopping.
